Position Information

The Buildings & General Services (BGS) team in Springfield is seeking a skilled and dependable Institutional Maintenance Mechanic to perform a variety of building, grounds, and utility maintenance tasks at state facilities. This role is essential to ensuring the safety, functionality, and upkeep of our buildings and infrastructure.

This position will:

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and structural components.
• Conduct repairs to fixtures, equipment, and facility infrastructure as needed.
• Maintain grounds, including snow removal, landscaping, and general outdoor upkeep.
• Respond to maintenance requests promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to facility operations.
• Operate and maintain tools, machinery, and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Assist in special projects, renovations, and emergency repairs.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience in general building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and work orders.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Physical ability to lift, carry, and operate tools and equipment in various environments.
• A valid driver's license and ability to travel between facilities as required.

Candidates must be able to pass a background check. The hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 3pm, with the possibility of on call hours.
