GIS/GPS Mobile Mapping Technician

The increased accuracy of GIS and GPS regarding mapping technology has created advancements in technology for our industry, and we’re embracing it with open arms. We’re looking for a self-starter, someone motivated to learn the equipment we have and not only understand how it works, but how it can help us expand our business! The GIS Mobile Mapping Technician performs complex skilled technical work researching, gathering, and maintaining scans and converting to usable roadway plans, entering data into database, plotting points from scans, and related work as apparent or assigned. Will then perform layout of roads at time of completion using either robotic layout equipment or Rover to plot points for roadway construction.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Create and/or maintain basic data production functions (for roadway construction) using GIS-related software.
- General understanding of all project tools/specifications to complete work.
- Analyze utility maps, sketches, field photographs, and tabular data including computer generated CAD drawings.
- Meet the quality standards per the project requirements.
- Meet the productivity standards per the project requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 50-75% field work/roadway required during summer months (will require overnights)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of property mapping; general knowledge of tools and equipment required for mapping function, including GIS; general knowledge of the procedures, forms, record keeping systems and reports; general skill operating standard office equipment, hardware and software; ability to prepare accurate and neat drawings; ability to deal courteously and tactfully; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public. Must have some knowledge of AutoCAD or the willingness/aptitude to learn.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associates/Technical degree in drafting, mapping, computer operations, geographic information systems, or related field and moderate experience in property mapping, assisting surveyor, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires walking, sitting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling; work requires close vision and ability to adjust focus; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts and using of measuring devices; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (traffic). |
