Project Manager / Safety Coordinator

About the Position:

This is a position with split responsibilities between employee safety, and project management, who will directly report to the President and Vice President of Walker Construction, Inc. The Project Manager is responsible for accurate and timely project pricing. Upon project award is responsible for project coordination, administration, and ensuring that project is completed during projected duration, and with projected profitability. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for managing employee safety, through annual trainings, and weekly company wide safety meetings. It is this positions responsibility to ensure all safety manuals and protocols are current and being followed. Performance on this will be measured through our MOD rating, and insurance audits.

Key Responsibilities: 

Project Manager:

The responsibilities of the Project Manager Include, but are not limited to:

  • Bid work in an accurate, and timely manner to help ensure proper workload for our work force 
  • Attend Pre-bid meetings, with developers, general contractors, municipal managers, engineers, and homeowners 
  • Analyze plans, specifications, and bid documents to develop a comprehensive scope of work and price for said scope 
  • Utilize plans technical specifications, and meetings to develop a thorough understanding of the material equipment and labor needed for the defined scope of work 
  • Provides accurate and timely, product, and means and method submittal to general contractor 
  • Coordination of project suppliers and subcontractors for timely execution of all work 
  • Attend progress meetings with general contractors, engineers, homeowners, and municipal managers to maintain continuity of the job progress, quality of work, and payment 
  • Adjust to changing project conditions, personnel, and additions of unforeseen items. Track these items and provide pricing and schedule changes to the project owner/general contractor 
  • Oversee and maintain accurate records of change in work, as-built information, and communication through spreadsheets, emails, and letters of record 
  • Maintain communication with office administration in relation to billing, payables, and receivables. 
  • Works with, and directs Project foreman/Superintendent 
  • Clearly communicates goals & objectives 
  • Manages material deliveries on site

Safety Coordinator:

  • Update company safety manual and procedures to be current with VOSHA/MSHA regulations 
  • Responsible for organizing and running annual refresher training 
  • Responsible for site audits of safety protocols 
  • Has the ability to reprimand any employee for not following safety protocols through verbal, and written warnings 
  • Coordinate with all foremen to ensure weekly safety meeting is occurring 
  • Record keeping with administrative staff of individual employee safety training and requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent - Required 
  • Tech School or College education- Preferred 
  • Valid Driver’s License - Required 
  • Experience with site organization, layout, and crew management Required

  • Able to proficiently use Windows program suite 
  • OSHA 10, 30, or HAZWOPER 40 preferred

Working Conditions: 

Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, extreme temperatures, and work sites will have uneven and inconsistent work surfaces.

Work Hours: 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, between 40 and 60 hours per week during the construction season. Additional travel and overtime may be required when deemed necessary.
