Estimator / Project Manager / Sales Representative
The successful candidate will be responsible for estimating projects, writing proposals, submitting bids, generating sales, and project management.  The ideal candidate will have prior construction related sales, estimating, and project management experience, but we are willing to train the right person.  Prior paving and road construction experience is preferred, but not required.  The candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills, basic math and computer skills, be self-motivated, be personable, and have integrity.  Blaktop and its sister company, Twin State Sand & Gravel, are family run businesses that have been in operation for over 70 years.  This is an excellent opportunity to find a home at a company that values quality and integrity over production and pushing sales.  This is a full time, year round, salaried (non-commission) position with a great benefits package.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with customers and subcontractors.
  • Read and understand blue prints and scopes of work to bid.
  • Meet with customers and work with them to solve their problems.
  • Take measurements, notes, and make sketches in the field and use that information to calculate estimates and write proposals.
  • Ensure timely completion of estimates and proposals.
  • Work with the Paving Superintendent for job planning and scheduling.
  • Coordinate with the Paving Superintendent, Paving Foreman, and other contractors on the jobsite to ensure successful completion of projects.
  • Follow up with the customer during and after completing the project to ensure that the customer is satisfied and that expectations have been met.
  • Review job paperwork to generate invoices.
  • Review job costs and revenue.
  • Identify prospective customers and market services and products.
  • Actively search for qualified projects to bid on.
  • Assist with job layout and setup as necessary.
  • Work as a laborer on the paving crews and grading crews on occasion and as part of the training & onboarding process.

Requirements Qualifications
  • Good basic math skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints and do takeoffs preferred.
  • Prior construction related experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel.
  • Associates degree or higher in a related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with PlanSwift takeoff software preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

 Work Environment / Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk over rough and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift and carry light loads.
  • Willingness to work extended hours during the construction season.
  • Work environment will sometimes be in a construction setting which will involve exposure to various hazards such as vehicle traffic, moving equipment, dust, and elevated noise levels.
