AGC/VT staff attended the 2024 AGC of America Annual Convention in San Diego to receive the Community Service Award for our "Diseases of Despair" campaign launched in 2023. There were over 1400 contractors and chapter staff in attendance at the Marriot on the waters of San Diego overlooking the bay filled with boats and some of our Navys biggest ships. The event began Wednesday, March 20th with a powerful opening ceremony with the announcement of Steve Sandherr, AGC of Americas CEO which included touching words from the outgoing leader and was concluded by national television star on ABCs, Shark Tank, Daymond John who became famous for launching an international clothing brand "FUBU" which was a major part of hip hop musics style in the 1990s.

Richard and Matt from AGC/VT attended the event and accepted the award at Fridays closing luncheon. It was an honor for staff to accept the award but it was the hard work spearheaded by Reid Wobby of VTHC, Stephanie Busch from Vermonts Department of Health, Kathy Murphy Moriarty of Invest EAP and many many members adopting the programs who made the award possible. The award ceremony was immediately followed by keynote speaker Admiral William H. McRaven who gave a good talk about what it takes to be successful. His speech weaved in stories from his past including how he chose to serve in the Navy, a detailed story about the training of Navy Seals and stories about his experience defeating international terrorists including Osama Bin Ladin and Sadamm Hussien.

Between ceremonies and keynotes were dozens of breakouts that contractors and staff found beneficial. This year a focus on how artificial intelligence is already interacting in our marketplace was a key topic. The different ways that "AI" can help track information leading to safer work sites, more efficient operation and collaborations between trades is amazing. There are even emerging AI processes that will help track the language(s) used in toolbox talks and the responses of attendees to then show where supers/foremen can get additional training to make those interactions more dynamic and encourage engagement from members.

Next year the AGC of America convention will be held in Columbus, OH which is much closer making access easier for companies and employees to attend. We highly suggest taking the time to check out an AGC of America convention.
